2015 BSGH Year-End News Letter
Gentlemen,
Sorry this is a little late getting out this year.  Congratulations are in order to Tommy Garcia as the BSGH 2015 Match Play Champion, as well as to Randy Fontyn as the BSGH 2015 Club Champion, determined by the year-long “Fedex Cup” type point system.  The Club Championship ended in a tie between Randy and Hector Esparza and was finally determined in an 18 hole playoff at Empire Lakes.  Randy will now represent the Club in the SCGA Tournament of Champions.  Tom Chevolek was the winner of the Two-Day Low Net at San Vicente Golf Resort.  Congratulations also to Paul Morgan for his hole-in-one ($1400) during the September tournament at Sierra Lakes.  The Hole-in-One pot will start to grow again next year.
Mike Banda has the honor of Most Improved golfer of the year, lowering his handicap index from 20.1 to a 14.3.  Jaime Rodriguez was second, going from a 15.1 to an 11.0.  Steve Rausch posted the most rounds year-to-date (191) with Rey Avalos second, posting 156 rounds.
Our membership remains at 60 active members, however there are almost half of our members who have not participated in the monthly tournaments.  We still need to make a concerted effort to get a better turn out for the tournaments.  The Club coffers currently stand at $2813.72.  Randy tries to keep to funds up to cover required deposits for the monthly tournaments.
At the last two-day tournament several issues were discussed regarding next year’s tournaments that we would like further input from you, the members:
  1. Revert the Club Championship back to a two-day tournament.  Members will only be eligible for entry into the Club Championship if they have participated in a minimum of 4 or 5 tournaments in the previous 12 months. (Number yet to be determined).
  2. Have a separate “FedexCup” year-long points system for members choosing to participate, $25 entry fee at the beginning of the year.  This will require additional work for Tom Chevolek, but he has indicated he is willing.
  3. I will again run the Match Play for next year, $40 entry fee to be collected at the first tournament of the year.
  4. We will try to run another Partner’s Blind Draw tournament with a President’s Cup type format (six holes better ball, six holes modified alternate shot and six holes scramble.  The 18 participants this year really enjoyed the change of format.
With the above scheduled for next year we hope to enhance the members’ tournament experience and increase the number of participants for each tournament.  Please contact me with your thought regarding the above and if you have any suggestions for tournament sites or other issues.
Attached you will find the renewal application form for 2016.  The dues are $65, payable by December 21.  Make the checks out to BSGH and mail to Randy at 5700 Carbon Canyon Rd, #85, Brea, Ca. 92823.  For those members who belong to more than one club, SCGA will be offering small rebates after January.  Contact the SCGA at scga.org/rebate I’m also attaching a current member directory.  Please check it and verify your contact information.  If there are any discrepancies, please let me know ASAP.  I will send out the updated directory with the schedule for next year.  If you have any questions, contact me or Randy.
The first tournament for 2016 is February 18, California Country Club, Whittier. 11:30 tee time, $65.  Again, mail all checks to Randy.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
