2013 Year End Handicap Chairman's Report
BSGH concluded the year with an exciting 2-day tournament Club Championship at River Ridge in Oxnard. Although we barely fielded 20 members, everyone agreed they enjoyed the courses. Congratulations to this year’s Club Champion and new member JOE CHANDLER, with your humble Handicap Chairman coming in 2 strokes short. Congratulations also go out to HECTOR ESPARZA & RALPH BENNETT as the 2013 Partners’ Match Play Champions. Running a few reports through SCGA shows that LARRY LAY is the MOST IMPROVED golfer of the year, reducing his Index from 14.6 to 11.6. As an interesting side note, your Club President RANDY FONTYN had a tough year (in more ways than one) and showed the LEAST improvement going from a low of 4.9 up to a 7.9. We expect much better results for 2014 if he can stay in one residence for the whole year. REY AVALOS once again led the Club this year in ROUNDS POSTED with 98, and TOMMY GARCIA was a close second with 88. I guess retirement agrees with him!
As of now, the Club has 64 Active golfers, up from last year, although we only get less than half participating in our monthly tournaments. We would really like to increase the number of members for 2013 and get more members out to the tournaments. So contact your friends, relatives, acquaintances and strangers and promote the benefits of the Club to others for 2014. Regular tournaments would be more enjoyable and the Club Championship would be more representative of the membership if there was greater participation. We are always open to suggestions for different tournament venues or ways to enhance the members’ tournament experience.
